Setting up the Homestead

We needed to start up our homestead because everyone else was grabbing land fast. So we bought a beacon and set out. On the way to the build site, we stumbled into a varactyl nest, and they weren't happy! We quickly found some carrots that the varactyls like, so they let us pass. We set up base in a clearing where there was fertile soil and a pond. I negotiated a deal with Dah'lia for renting some of our land for animals, which is a good source of income.

We went to set up hydro at the rapids. I found the perfect spot when I looked a bit too far into the river - I landed on a ledge (with the help of Arron). The others set to work on it.

Suddenly, the water started to churn and two tentacles came out of the water! Arron and Vreck went for their weapons and started to shoot. Vreck got a good shot on one and I expected to have covering fire from Arron but he shot at the far one from me! I saw Jurn get picked up off the ledge in the middle of the rapids and I knew I had to take my safety into my own hands. Arron was helping the others instead of me; maybe I should pay him more. I took out my blaster and shot the tentacle in front of me trying to keep it at bay. I barely dodged the tentacle's attack - I only got a few scratches.

Vreck got the monster's head out of the water and two more tentacles popped up! I distracted the beast long enough for Jurn to get his acid gun to fire down its throat. The monster was dead and Jurn somehow made it to safety.

We started home since the hydro was set up and it was getting late; we made it in peace.

As the month went by, Vreck tried to tame the varactylings. Arron planted crops and I spent time with Jern building a farm machine. With Jern's building skill we saved over 2,500 credits, which is amazing! I did accounting and worked on the clear fruit orchard. We all helped, including Adi.
