Well, that either went really well, or insanely poorly. It's all up to Via and Varentari to cover for us. At the same time, it was surprisingly refreshing to be out on the streets again. Haven't done that for a few months.
It all started a few days ago with a surprise blockade. We still don't know exactly why, but we woke up to a large Imperial Interdictor Cruiser in orbit, along with a Victory-Class Star Destroyer. INN had no idea what was going on, and our troops were getting very nervous.
What made this worse was the pending arrival of some high-ranking Alliance envoys - a key meeting was set up with Governor Varentari to work out some political details. The planetary shield generator is almost complete, and the Alliance and I have to know what steps to take once the shield is up.
While Damaria and Tor were busy dealing with their subordinates and Arali went off to try to meet with Fenthar, our military spy, I retreated to my meditation chamber and sought guidance. My Force visions have been getting stronger - sometimes I think I hear Master Xenrad's voice, and at other times the future seems clear. In this case I was very disturbed - I sensed burning and screaming - visions of my childhood and places I love turning to ash. And then a void in the Force - an absence my size. I was confused, but it was a clear warning that we couldn't just stand idly by. In my vision I gave in to hatred, which brought about victory and success - and the disappearance of the void.
With this vision in my thoughts, I reconvened with the other leaders. Fenthar managed to procure a Lambda Class Shuttle with clearance to resupply the Interdictor, and in light of the vision I felt compelled to join the away team. We needed to get rid of the threat before my vision took place. The future is in motion, and is not destined to be.
In the early evening I boarded the shuttle, along with Tor, Damaria, Arali, and 2 pilot recruits. They seemed a little nervous about this - their first “real” mission, since we have been laying as low as possible. We were doing fine until we were hailed by the Star Destroyer, halfway to the Interdictor.
They demanded we dock with them, and we complied, pretending everything was just normal. And here is where the plan took a left turn. In the hangar bay, we were informed that the Admiral himself was coming aboard - the ranking officer for both the Star Destroyer and Interdictor. An incredible opportunity I just could not pass up.
Unfortunately, my vision was accurate. Instead of a simple interrogation, my Influence was of no use. This man was the void - not only was he an arrogant, laconic jerk, I could not interact with his mind. It was as if he simply was not there.
After a few attempts at a chat, I had a discrete chat with Arali - we were struck with inspiration: I would impersonate the Admiral - all we needed was a few sentences out of him so I could imitate his voice, and since he does not seem to talk much anyway, it should not be that hard. I had thankfully packed my disguise kit, and he seemed roughly my size.
Time was not on our side, though - Arali's attempts failed miserably, and it took Damaria to pretend to be his greatest fan to get him to start ranting. With only a few minutes remaining, Arali and I quickly ambushed the man and his guards.
My haste was unfortunate. In the whirlwind of troopers crashing against the walls and blasters firing, the poor Admiral's face was crushed. Our saving grace was Tor's fastidiousness - he was puzzled about the man's species, and so managed to quickly touch up my face with paints and synthflesh just in time. I disembarked the shuttle as Admiral Alezander. As Damaria recovered from her shock, she made good use of Battle Meditation to bombard me with salty language. It would have been nice to let her in on the plan, but there was simply not enough time…
I quickly improvised a story about a surprise inspection, and obviously his reputation preceded him. We arrived on the bridge, with thankfully no other high-ranking officers present, and quickly demanded we hit hyperspace. I provided coordinates relatively near an Alliance Fleet, and managed to convince the Star Destroyer to join us - something about an emergency call for all nearby fleets to converge for a quick strike on the vulnerable Rebel fleet. Imperials love to follow orders, so it actually worked.
While in hyperspace, Tor managed to rig up the comms to send an encrypted message to our Alliance friends to set up an ambush, and we swiftly took care of the officers on our vessel by ordering an impromptu “strategy meeting.” Even though the Admiral was killed without intel, at least we had a few men to hand over to the Alliance.
The battle was over quickly once our little crew took over the bridge. We sounded the evacuation, with Tor fooling the sensors by creating a phantom fire in the reactor core, so the Alliance now owns a shiny Interdictor. Unfortunately the accompanying Star Destroyer did NOT surrender, and so the Alliance had to be content with its destruction. They did not expect us to fire at it from the rear.
I do not know exactly how to explain all of this to Varentari and Via. I shall leave that up to Arali, thankfully. It helps that the Admiral was non-human - the Empire always suspects them of being traitors more easily. Clearly the Admiral was a sleeper agent…
In hindsight, the plan was foolhardy, and I could have killed all of us. My over-reliance on my powers is a hindrance. I will have to face Varentari at the envoy meeting tomorrow, and hopefully he will have cooled off by then. I am not so sure about Via - if this draws the wrong sort of Imperial investigation, our whole plan could be ruined. Is that vision coming true despite my efforts?
