Link to Fox's Log

35:1:19 - 01:00

Brown Fox and D'Gane get dropped off at Fox Den, and walk in. She has managed to find a cloak to wrap around her rather expensive dress - it would have been rather out of place here. As Fox walk past local denizens, D'Gane seems to be another person, a giggly stereotypical Zeltron who has had her fill of liquor. She clutches herself against Madar, and Fox helps along the groggy guard, and the four of them enter Fox's private quarters without much fuss - a group of drunken revelers would not raise too many eyebrows.

The second the door is closed, D'Gane pushes Madar into the corner headfirst, and he groans and drops, unconscious. “We need to talk. Would you mind using those fancy shock gloves on your 'friend' over there?”

While her actions are fairly violent, she seems quite calm, as if this is all routine. “Well, this report shouldn't be too hard to write up. I was hoping Agent 63 would show, but this chauvinistic slime will do as a fall guy. The tightest way to clean up this mess is to kill Madar for his crimes, sew some intel into his jacket, and drop him off at the ISB HQ. We both get accolades, and can continue our activities here - or whatever your little plan is. Unfortunately I already completed the drop at the casino, and someone will have to go back to grab it. We can make a copy first, of course. Mind calling your allies?”

Brown Fox surveys her and keeps his head very still while he's speaking, choosing his words carefully. “There are a lot of benefits to that plan, but this isn't the time for haste. I think there is the threat that this story of him being the mole won't wash. Has he ever been to your facility? What if ISB can't match him and the data together? If they investigate and find holes in the story, an even brighter light is going to be shone on both of us. It's too hasty.

“If we are going to deliver a potential loose end, we need to at least give them something else to think about as well. ISB wants to know where the leak was, but also who was receiving the information. We give them that, and maybe they won't look too hard at the past.”

D'Gane stops and looks at Brown Fox, staring. For a long time she says nothing. Her eyes do not reveal emotion or thoughts. She reaches out and lifts his muzzle with a gentle hand and looks Fox straight in the eye as she speaks. “Not just a lap dog, are you… Astute observation, if a little misguided.”

Her words are now to Fox, instead of simply at the room. “You give more credit to the ISB than they deserve - they are more interested in quickly finding answers than in any sort of justice, and they particularly want answers to match their presuppositions. Perhaps your plan has merit. If you want to save Madar's pitiful life, we can use him as a tool. The ISB will enjoy drawing out a confession from him - it will definitely preoccupy them for a while. Ironically his denials will make them all the more certain he is guilty.”

Brown Fox takes some time to discuss possible approaches to framing a receiving party in addition to Madar, and Via now seems to view him as a person, not just a piece of furniture. That's an improvement.
