Season 3 Finale: Overcoming Illusions
36:04:04
The Lake Shield team realized a Star Destroyer was nearly on top of their position, and turned off the comm jammer to communicate with the Rebel Fleet above Balmorra's skies. Furthermore, the ion cannon didn't have enough power to fire through the shields due to a dark side vergence, which threw off the initial calculations.
After some investigation and communication with Baron Swift, back at Bin Prime, they realized a second Inquisitor had Misdirected their team and smuggled herself on board The Last Call. The pseudo-Via (aka Inquisitor Trine) Shrouded herself after landing, and was nowhere to be found.
The team decided to head to the nearby Sith Empire ruins to see if they could salvage some ancient conduits and possibly power supplies. They discovered a still-functioning command centre, and were caught up in a sort of memory field. Tor, the first to touch equipment, became Sith Lord Commander Rajah; Kay, in an attempt to rescue him, became Prorata, the weapons engineer; Arali stayed away from the command platform, but succumbed as well to become Salek, head of security and ground troops. Damaria managed to retain a slight awareness of herself, but also was controlled by memories of Sith Lord Jaipur, Battle Commander.
Since the ships' transponders were all unidentifiable by Sith programming, they assumed the Star Destroyers firing upon the planetary shields were heavily modified Old Republic capital ships, and Kay/Prorata activated ancient anti-air defense platforms, one in the middle of Lake Farnell, the other near the Gorinth Canyon. This unexpected barrage, combined with Damaria/Jaipur's Battle Meditation, turned the tides of the space battle.
Meanwhile, Inquisitor Trine took the opportunity to sabotage the shield generator's power supply, slicing cables with her lightsaber. This alerted Arali/Salek, who was sent to deal with an apparent rebel attack on their nearby fortification. She came to herself as she ran out of the Temple, and saw Trine strike down Tor's sister. Arali shouted the news over the comms, which snapped Tor out of his enchantment.
Arali managed to resist the Misdirect attempts of Trine. Clearly having the upper hand in an all-out duel, Trine swapped appearances with Arali in the eyes of the shield generator crew. This didn't stop Arali, who cornered Trine in the control room, and Tor, arriving just in time, shot a geothermal pipe. The superheated fluid melted away the Inquisitor's face, ending that threat for good.
The Desert Shield team made quick plans to ambush the incoming Inquisitor and Moff Pugnus' elite troops and left minutes before the Lake Team's arrival. They found an acceptable, though not ideal site and had time to rig up excavation explosives from the generator's construction supply.
Their ambush was almost thwarted by the Inquisitor revealing he was holding Dash's mother captive. A valiant attempt to rescue her resulted in a change of positions: Dash's mother managed to grab on to the speeder, but Sprend's timed distraction shot clipped Dash, who fell to the ground.
A swipe of the battle-crazed Inquisitor's lightsaber knocked out Dash, critically injuring him. Sprend began to fire frenetically at the Inquisitor, trying to prevent the coup de grâce. By focusing fire on the Inquisitor, who began taking damage but reflected most of it away, it allowed the Imperial hovertanks to target Sprend. The heavy anti-vehicle/armour piercing cannons obliterated Sprend's position, and set off the explosives hidden along the canyon walls, setting off a chain reaction. When the dust settled, the entire canyon had collapsed, burying everyone in the vicinity.
A memorial service will be held to honour the dead and missing - the myriad ground troops and the allies who fought in the skies; but with the destruction of Moff Pugnus' entire fleet, the Balmorran Resistance has secured their independence, and that sacrifice has not been in vain.
