Mission 7b - Explosions, Bombs and Poison Gas
Session Summary
35:2:8-9
With the convoy destroyed and the few survivors stable, the emergency med team leaves for Bin Prime while the team heads for the mines to finish their mission.
An Unusual Ore
Their deception works well, and they infiltrate the facility, quickly killing the Imperial guards, retrieving a significant amount of processed ore with the help of three of Telmarr's men, and then destroying the processing plant. Tor rigged up a remote trigger, and Fox nearly blew up the entire mine. Thankfully he saw an unusual rock fissure just before finishing up, and had a second chance to alter the explosives placements.
The rest of the mine is still accessible, but it will be an expensive and time-consuming setback for the Empire. The party also left behind a false trail leading to Sabik, and left behind several 'witnesses' instead of liberating them.
The Revenge of the Human League
Next stop, the Human League outpost to the South. This facility appeared almost deserted, with one very large drill outside. Cautiously scouting inside the refurbished central ruins, they find a small group of women - an old human, a younger pregnant human, and some non-human slaves: 2 Arkanian offshoots (when you're back in Bin Prime, the team would probably figure out that their father was very likely the 'albino' slave in the mine that they bullied and left behind), and an old Duro woman. After a few brief and bitter words, the older human draws a disruptor pistol (highly illegal, very nasty, and now destroyed) and attempts to kill Fox, with Damaria taking the bullet for him.
As Sprend quickly guns the old hag down, he notices the “pregnant” woman is actually loaded with a bomb. He dives on top of her, shielding the rest of the room from the blast. Chaos ensues as everyone scrambles to stop him from bleeding out on the floor, pierced by thousands of tiny pieces of shrapnel. It's a good thing he was wearing the laminate.
After securing the rest of the mining equipment and sending it on its way to Sabik, (“let's not file off these Imperial serial numbers…”), they found interesting data on the Human League's terminal; it turns out the media attention surrounding the Baron at the gala banquet had some nasty consequences… he was kidnapped earlier (that's why he wasn't on the mission) and is being held for ransom at a warehouse in Bin Prime. In hindsight, the message subtly implied that he was being tortured for his crime of “being an alien-lover.”
Rescue Before Dawn
Trying desperately to heal and drive back at the same time, they complete a 12-hour van drive in 9 1/2 hours, driving rather dangerously. Marv is quickly contacted before they infiltrate the base. The guards go down quickly, and the team follows Damaria as she casts her Force senses into the vast building.
Swift is found, unconscious, in a strange tank - almost like bacta, but filled with a foul green fluid. Damaria bashes in the tank, and Tor helps her drag out the Baron, with probe droid blaster-fire raining down on them, and a huge AT-ST sprinting towards them, blasters firing. Sprend ends up dragging Fox out, who passes out in terror at the armored monstrosity, suffering from no sleep, crazy explosions, and almost getting wet fur.
Dash is waiting for them just outside the doors. As everyone is stuffed inside the van, the overhead doors rock with AT-ST fire, and it slowly begins to open… but the team has escaped.
Session Results
XP Rewards
- 5 XP for retrieving the ore and discovering part of its nature (also get Duty)
- 6 XP for destroying the mine without killing any innocents
- 3 XP for rescuing the three non-human slaves at the Human League outpost
- 2 XP for slicing into the system and recovering Human League comms
- 6 XP for rescuing the Baron before he received his 4th critical injury
=22 total XP *Sprend receives a bonus 3 XP for his sacrificial near death experience - that medical check fails, and he was bloody toast.
This was a significant double-session mission, and as a bonus everyone receives one free new Spec, can be in career or out of career - a chance to show how each character is expanding their roles
edit: Dash wasn't around for the session, but with the mini forum session we did, I'd say he can get 6 XP (in addition to journaling) for managing to avoid suspicion the whole time, even gaining some positive reputation with Sobrik's troopers. And the free spec applies to him as well.
Duty Rewards (for 7a & b)
Pre-Rank 2
- 8 combat superiority (troopers and Twin Tails disposed of)
- 8 resource acquisition (acquiring the ore)
Re-set current Duty to 0
Post-Rank 2
- 4 resource acquisition (remainder of the ore value)
- 6 combat superiority (cleanup at the mine, warehouse)
- 10 counter-intelligence (planting evidence on Sabik)
- 8 sabotage (destroying the mine's ability to process ore)
- 8 support (jamming comms, transporting team through rough terrain, providing coordinates for the mine from stolen speeder)
- 2 Recruit (off-table: a possible new member is on their way - we'll find out about that later)
Obligation Rewards
- -20 for delivering the mining equipment to Sabik. The immediate debt is paid, but narratively he obviously has at least some intel on the team, which may come back to haunt them.
New Resources
- Another military speeder, and Dash recovered a topo-nav computer from one he left behind
- Closer connection to Telmarr's Twi'lek Corps (commander Vao) and Medical Team (Dr. Tann Shala, lead medic)
- Parts & Supplies for 2 sets of laminate armor (I'll try to get some rules for armor construction up before next session) - they work, but are rather shabby in their current state
- Anything else anyone can think of? The rest was delivered elsewhere, I think…
With Rank 2, we have the option of each getting a rarity 5 piece of gear/armor/weapon, or we can choose 2 upgrades to our base (my vote), or we can get a ship. Discuss in Session 9's thread.
