Session 4 Recap

The party takes the next week to recuperate and work on their interests; AD-87 decides to retreat to his oil bath again to heal up and refuses to get out. Who knows what he's doing in there? Keva spends his time tinkering with the datapad he received, presumably from Fyr, and manages to trace the signal to the government's Comm Centre, and from there it bounces down to the nearby city of Edgefield-on-Varonat. Slee spends his time researching the horribly-kept docking records, and manages to discover that a Black Skulls ship arrived during the time that matched his mechanic friend's story. He also discovered that the ship needed hyperdrive and shield generator components, and there are none legally available on Varonat (at least until the quarantine is lifted), but there might be black-market goods available in Edgefield).

Jinx spent his week doing errands for Khan Vane - chopping up roots, mixing, and fermenting them. When he finished, he managed to convince Khan to give him 3 doses. Keva took one dose, and promptly began throwing up. But after a quick test, it was discovered he was indeed cured of Jungle Rot. While Keva was busy emptying his innards from both ends in the ship's refresher, Slee decided to try the root as well. He made it half-way down the ramp before making a mess.

As they prepare to leave Tropis, they see a fearsome sight - 3 Star Destroyers approaching the planet. They met with Tana Panau to discuss this inauspicious arrival, and she suggested that they may just have come to end the quarantine. Inspections are standard in this case. She did, however, send along a package for Edgefield's Mayor to receive. It clearly was important since it had been stored in a cleverly-concealed compartment under her desk. Keva's fingers twitched.

After some quick and less than successful haggling with an odd Toydarian, Slee, Keva and Jinx ride out of town on their rented Cracian Thumpers. Slee was a bit nervous, noticing a suspicious figure speaking into a commlink as they left…

The journey was going fine for the first hour or two. The sun was shining, birds singing, and then they entered a small canyon. Both sides of the road rose straight upwards, and they were nervous but couldn't see anything unusual. It was hard to concentrate on such a beautiful day, and away from the noise and bustle of the city - this was an unfamiliar environment.

And so they were completely unprepared when a powerful blaster bolt struck Jinx in the back, followed by repeated shots at the entire group. Slee almost blacked out from the pain as he was pummeled by blaster fire as well. The party immediately realized the trouble they were in and bolted forward, stimming themselves as their mounts sprinted through the canyon. Their unseen attackers had some misfortune themselves, with one falling down the cliff, cascading rocks following him, but a sharpshooter managed to hit Jinx one more time.

As the Gank reeled and began to fall out of his saddle, Keva came to the rescue. With blaster bolts hitting the dirt road, the Chadra-fan heroically swung around his mount's head, acrobatically steadying Jinx in the saddle, and spurring on his mount, out of range of the shooters. Slee came along the other side of Jinx's mount and gave the last nudge to make sure he stayed put.

The trio pushed their mounts hard until they reached Edgefield, exhausted but alive. Edgefield was a fairly bustling city with a more diverse population than Tropis. Merchants in their stalls hawked their wares loudly and the roads were full of colourful pedestrian traffic.

In town, they dropped their mounts off near the gates and paid Sham-rena, a little Twi'lek girl, to watch their Thumpers, and headed off to meet the mayor. After convincing the guard they needed to deliver the package in person, they spoke with the mayor, a Mon Cal named Terpfen. Keva desperately tried to get a peek in the box, but the best he could manage was a glimpse of it's reflection in Terpfen's bulbuous eyes. Datacards?

As they concluded their transaction, Keva began to feel sick again, and proceeded to hurl the contents of his stomach all over Terpfen's shoes. They were all ushered out quickly.

They decided that finding a doctor was the next priority for the heavily-wounded group. After some searching, they came across an Ithorian; Booli Bendo. Dr. Bendo slowly and methodically treated each one, but he spoke to them as if they were children, and made them a tad nervous. In any case, they (mostly) felt better, and left healthier, though a bit poorer.

The final job of the day was to secure lodging for the night. The Mado Tammu inn was the most affordable they could find, a quiet little hostel with uninspiring but safe-looking food.

The next morning they decided to track down a black market contact. They needed ship parts to get off this planet! Mado Tammu recommended his brother, a shady-looking Rodian. While he couldn't sell them the parts they needed, he did mention a small band of pirates had received some shipments of this nature a while back, and were storing them in their warehouse nearby.

With this information in hand, the party decided to scout out the warehouse in broad daylight. Keva skulked around with his hand scanner, drawing a fair bit of attention, while Slee slithered onto the roof to map out the place with his electro-binoculars.

It became clear that a direct assault was not going to work, and the word on the street was that this pirate group had noticed them staking out the joint and were probably on their guard. But apparently these pirates were rather pleasant to deal with, so they decided to trick them by posing as buyers.

Jinx took the lead, and they marched up to the warehouse office. Two guards barred their way, but Jinx actually managed to convince them that they were expected, and they were here to pick up a package. Confused, the guards led them to the warehouse building, to where the foreman, Rik Pavan, waited for them.

They began to tell him their tale, but it clearly wasn't working as well on him as with the guards. But as he began to question them, his comlink chimed, and they all overheard the chatter: “The Imp fleet that entered our system are landing transports at Tropis. High Command wants us to hide - prepare to lay low. But the Tantive IV needs those ship supplies ASAP. We'll need to smuggle them off-planet somehow.”

It was clearly Terpfen's voice, and Slee recognized both the reference to High Command and had heard of the Tantive IV - a diplomatic corvette used by Senatorial opponents of the Empire - these must be the Rebels Tana Panau mentioned!

They hurriedly made a deal - in exchange for enough parts for their ship, they would deliver the shield generators to the Tantive IV, and would receive coordinates just before leaving. Rik Pavan made it clear that they needed to leave within 8 days to meet the deadline for their next mission.

Keva quickly checked Fyr's datapad signal - the wireless connection routed through the Warehouse office's comm tower, and he calculated that it traveled somewhere in the direction of Baker's Rock. Hmm. It was the highest point in the area - might be worth checking out.

Meanwhile several transports landed at Tropis, white-armoured stormtroopers marching out in precise formation. Hopefully AD-87 had managed to hide himself…
