Session 3 Recap

During the day the party puts their heads together to form a plan; the party splits up to prepared their plot. They contact Bargos the Hutt, their occasional employer, who passes on some valuable information on Kaltho's Luxury Yacht. An incomplete floorplan, but functional.

Slee works on installing a secret holo-recorder in 87's head, and then fakes a restraining bolt to fool Kaltho's minions. They also gather explosives and rig up two powerful packages as a back-up plan.

Keva and Jinx track down their underworld contacts and purchase false bounty hunter credentials. As they travel through town, they become separated - Jinx sees a shadowy figure who gestures toward him, and he tries to intercept this stranger. Meanwhile, Keva is mysteriously knocked over and receives a datapad with a message from the past.

The party meets up with Khan Vane after lunchtime, and he unveils his first possible cure from the first root. Keva and Slee bravely try the extract, but they do not detect any instant result. That's promising - at least it wasn't instantaneous violent death.

In the evening they listen as Tana Panau makes a deal with Kaltho. She seems to do a convincing job of selling their plan, and when Kaltho sees AD-87 is apparently captures, he suggests the “bounty hunters” return in his transport after the medical supplies are delivered. In hindsight, he was a bit too eager.

When the cheap YT-1300 arrives with medical supplies, Edgefield's security takes out the landing party, and the heroes barely secure the ship - one second away from blowing their cover before 87 mowed down the final pilot in a pool of blood.

The transport is loaded with exotic food for the Hutt and the contract required by Kaltho to take over Varonat's shadowport, and they fly out to dock with Kaltho's luxury yacht.

Kaltho's security detail meets them in the hangar, and escorts them to Kaltho's Audience Chamber. Kaltho is surrounded by his Klatooinian honor guard. As they begin to haggle over the price of the bounty, Jinx pulls out the holographic Jewel of Yavin and presents it to the surprised Hutt.

“Oh ho - this indeed changes things. It would indeed be worthy of a great prize, if you had not ruined my plans on Varonat.” The Hutt snaps his fingers, and in walks in the Besadii thug who had escaped from the earlier ambush. “You see, I am not easily fooled.” He then motions to one of his guards, who triggers a handheld switch. Immediately the party flies to the ceiling - a magnetic field trap!

Meanwhile, Slenahn begins unloading the food crates with his mechanic friends. It's noticeable that the corridor on the way to the galley is quite empty - most of the guards seem to be preoccupied. Suddenly, Slee's comm flares to life. “It's a trap! Quick, cut the power!”

Acting on instinct and faith, Slee and his men quickly and quietly slip past the galley and into the computer room - one guard on duty. The Varonat mechanics provide enough cover for Slee to begin working on finding a main power conduit. The guard quickly becomes suspicious, and then comms security alert just as Slee rips out the mains, and everything goes black.

Back in the Audience Chamber, Kaltho's snide gloating is cut off mid-sentence as the room goes dark. As the captives fall from the ceiling, Jinx manages to toss 87's rifle to him mid-air, but both land heavily on the ground. Keva, with his keen senses, expertly lands on his feet, rolling into attack position instantly. “GET THEM!” hollers Kaltho, and the battle is on.

Jinx and AD-87 heroically exchange blows and provide Keva time to slip out into the empty and dark hallway, and he heads for the hyperdrive room. He calls Slee to meet him, but Slee has a difficult time fighting his way through guards who have been alerted to the Computer Room issues, and one of his friends falls from blaster fire. With a stroke of luck, Slee blinds an expert bounty hunter who was wearing night-vision goggles, and then locked the doors behind another troop of battle droids as he barrels past them.

Safe from the guards, Keva rigs up a few emergency lights to power on the hyperdrive computer, and prepares it just in time for Slee to dash in and program the coordinates to the centre of the closest star, overriding security protocols. They just have time to exit the room when the lights went on - close call; security cameras have not recorded their work.

They step into the hall as 87 and Jinx finish barricading the Audience Chamber, with a blazing fire at one exit. As they all run towards the transport, Slee drops a Detonite package to make it look like their plan was explosives and not the hyperdrive.

As they detach from the yacht, the firepower of Kaltho's fleet is directed towards them. 87 has difficulty keeping the ship in line, but as the transport is buffeted by turbolasers he hits the jump point, and Slee engages the hyperdrive. Escape!

When they return a few microjumps later, Kaltho's ship is nowhere to be seen, and his fleet is in retreat as ground turrets bombard them. As the party lands, they are greeted with cheers and a victory feast - they are now the Heroes of Varonat!
